The Happy Visit
We recommend bringing your child to the dentist by their first birthday or when their first tooth comes in. Parents are always welcome in the treatment room, so you can be part of the experience from the very beginning.
This first appointment is called a “happy visit” —and it’s complimentary! Even if your child isn’t quite ready for an exam, that’s okay. These visits are a great opportunity for parents to get helpful information about brushing, nutrition, and what to expect as their child’s smile develops.
The goal is simple: to keep the experience happy. When children grow up visiting the dentist in a positive, supportive environment, they are far less likely to feel anxious about dental care later on. By the time they’re ready for cleanings or treatment, they’ll already see the dentist as a friend. Kids can also relax by watching their favourite Netflix show during their appointment!

Getting Rid of the Sugar Bugs
When your child is ready for dental care, we make the process fun and easy to understand. We often describe cavities as “sugar bugs” camping out in the teeth. As we remove the decay, we explain that we’re brushing away different coloured sugar bugs.
During cleanings, we tell kids we’re “shampooing” their teeth with special blue shampoo, then rinsing it away—just like bath time. Finally, we use our gentle “hairdryer” to dry the teeth. These playful explanations help children stay relaxed while learning what’s happening step by step.
